This competition was launched on BBC Radio Scotland on Saturday
17 September 2005. It is for the myriad of ridersof all standards
who own horses and ponies and compete in showjumping, dressage
or showing competitions throughout Scotland.
The 2008 qualifiers have begun and been well
received by the competitors at Jumps Equestrian Centre. A
number of applications from show secretaries to hold qualifying
classes have been received. Further qualifiers for the Winter
Championships are available on request. Applications from
all organisations will be welcomed, Agricultural Shows, Riding
Club. Pony Club organisers of Charity events as well as show
centres, are invited to apply. Every effort will be made to
avoid the clashing of dates. The classes are designed to be
incorporated into existing schedule formats.
The experienced team at Jumps Equestrian Centre Carluke
initiated this prestigious competition for equestrian enthusiasts
who regularly compete in showjumping and dressage & Showing.
It has been realised that for the majority of riders who compete
in unaffiliated competitions there is a lack of a major championship
in which to compete in Scotland. Having established the ever
popular Scottish Schools Annual Showjumping Championships
over 10 years ago, it is felt that the Saltire Series will
go from strength to strength and encourage both horse and
pony riders to aim for excellence in their chosen sport but
without them incurring great expense. The series has been
designed to be incorporated into existing events all over
Scotland. This dedicated website disseminates information on
events, publishes results and is a point of reference for
show secretaries and competitors.
